Synopsis
All Figured Out is about two friends struggling to balance their lives and relationships as they come to a crossroads: live the life they want or settle for the one presented to them. With their storylines running parallel, we follow Brad and Connell through the most-impactful summer of their adult lives. Doing so, we’re able to showcase the real main character of the story from two different perspectives. That would be the town itself, Salem.
Connell is a struggling filmmaker. He’s moving back in with his dad after a failed stint out on his own and is on the verge of giving up on himself. His high school sweetheart, Julie, is graduating from nursing school. She’s ready to settle down, get married, have kids, a house, the ideal small town life. Connell battles with the idea of this, when he suddenly gets a new opportunity from an unexpected place. Because of this, he gets one last shot to make something of himself, but doing so brings him to his crossroads: chase his dreams, or fulfill Julie’s.
Meanwhile, Brad is spending his nights distracting himself by whatever means necessary. Brad had a shot at the life he wanted, but he threw it all away. Once his successful dad has had enough of his debauchery, he presents him a choice: work for him or good luck out on his own. The last thing he wants is to become like his father. He gets one last chance at life when he meets Mariah. She brings something out of him that he hasn’t felt in a long time. She’s made a life for herself and is ready to take the next step in her master plan: go to San Diego and get her dream job. Brad is now at his crossroads: finally face his feelings and live a life he chooses or succumb to his father and take the same route as him.
Director’s Statement
“When I first wrote All Figured Out, I knew immediately it had to be written in Salem. Not only would this help with our budget due to our connections, but there’s a certain feeling the skies of the Pacific Northwest radiates that can’t be replicated anywhere else. It's gritty, it’s lonely, it’s beautiful and there’s something about it that attracts people. I took a notecard and wrote “Make the town its own character” before sticking it on my wall with a tack. That’s what I sought out to do and I believe that’s what I accomplished. Our plan is to take this characterization to the next level by showcasing the most beautiful state in the country, capturing the rural green that surrounds Salem, the historic streets of Portland, and the unique sands of the Oregon Coast.”
